How to Make a Battery from a Potato

July 23, 2008

To make a clock run with the power of potato is very easy. You may think its difficult but its not. This unique and bizarre scientific technique is very simple and also helps in creating sweet science or chemistry projects for college students.

Now what are the apparatus needed :

  1. Below are the ingredients required :

  2. 2 potatoes,

  3. 2 very short pieces of copper wire (preferably heavy in size),

  4. 2 commonly galvanized nails,

  5. 3 alligator clip and make sure that they are connected with each other with the wire or you can use wire units,

  6. 1 simple low-voltages LED clock which works from 1 to 2 volts button type battery

Steps :

1) First remove the battery of the clock from the battery compartment. \

2) Keep a note of the positive (+) and negative (-) points of the battery.

3) Then number the potatoes as 1 and 2.

4) Now insert 1 nail in each potato.

5) Insert one short piece of copper wire into both potatoes as far wway from nail as possible.

6) Now, take one alligator clip to connect the copper wire into the first potato till the positive (+) point in the clock.

7) Then, use the 3rd alligator clip to connect the next nail into the potato number one to the copper wire in second potato and set the  clock.

Now how does this potato clock work ????

The potato battery is a electrochemical battery, also known as an electrochemical cell. An electrochemical cell is a cell in which chemical energy is converted into electric energy by a spontaneous electron transfer. In the case of potato here, the zinc in the nail reacts with the copper wire. The potato then acts as a sort of buffer between both the zinc ions and the copper ions. The zinc and copper ions would still react if they touched within the potato but they would only generate heat. Now, since the potato keeps them apart, the electron transfer has to take place over the copper wires of the circuit, which channels the energy into the clock. TADA! Now you can see the potato power.

How to charge your mobile phone battery with peepal leaves

July 21, 2008

It’s a very true but strange technique to charge your mobile battery.

Its been found that you don’t only require any mobile charger to charge the mobiles. You just need a green leaf of peepal tree and your mobile battery will be fully charged. Yes it is true.

When people came to know about this development, they started testing it and found very successful and encouraging results. If your mobile phone’s battery is discharged and if you’re inside a jungle (I know this is rare) and you don’t have your mobile charger, then you have a very unique way to charge your mobile battery. Just pluck 2 peepal leaves and then you’re done.

It’s a brilliant idea and an easy one at that to charge your mobile battery. You must open your cell battery and then connect it with the peepal leaf.  Without shaking the mobile set, set the battery in your mobile set. After few minutes you will be amazed to see that your mobile battery will be charged.

Although it is unbelievable but as soon as the Chitrakoot residents came to know this discovery they felt disbelief. But after practically testing it, the incident proved it was true.

Now 100’s of mobile phone holders use this technique for charging their mobiles.

A lot of people including Sushil Kumar Shukla, Santosh Verma, principal of Mahatma Gandhi School, Raj Karan Patel, Shyam Patel, Shekhar Dwivedi, Pramod Gupta, Manager of Gayatri temple, RN Tripathi proved that this technique was true.

According to the botanists, its just changing mutual energy into electrical energy power can be saved in battery. Similarly, its also possible. They said that it’s a subject of research.

Here again are the steps-by-step guide to charge your mobile phone battery using a peepal leaf :

1- Just remove open your mobile cover
2- Take out your battery from the mobile
3- Take 2-3 fresh leaves of peepal/pipal/ashwattha tree
4- Now touch the stub of these leaves on your mobile battery terminal for nearly a minute
5- Then clean the mobile phone battery terminal with a soft cloth
6- Put your mobile battery again in your mobile and switch it on
7- Now check out the result
8- If needed repeat the process with fresh leaves

Steps for Creating Text Rollover (Hover) using CSS

July 21, 2008

While souring through the internet, i found this great helpful tip for creating a plain simple text which will change its color on rolling the mouse pointer on it. I assume readers reading my tutorial will have basic and general knowledge and information of Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and also they understand what CSS is (not just its full form but what it is used for). If you have any queries regarding this post, feel free to leave a comment with your email and I will try my level best to solve it

First, open a new notepad file and create a HEAD Tag. Then add a STYLE Tag in order to assign your text the effect of roll over.

<head>
<style type=”text/css”>

Then, for example, assume that we have a blue colored link and want “red” color as roll over effect, try this,

<head>
<style type=”text/css”>
a:link {
color:#0000FF;
}
a:hover {
color:#FF0000;
}
</style>
</head>

If you feel you want to change the color of visited link then you can add the below code :

a:visited {
color:#336600;
}

The above code will help in changing the color of visited link to green.

Now, if you wish to display a background color on rollovering then just add the below code in a:hover area,

background-color:#0066FF;

Say for example :

Our code is :

<head>
<style type=”text/css”>
a:link {
color:#0000FF;
}
a:hover {
color:#FF0000;
}
</style>
</head>
Add <head>
<style type=”text/css”>
a:link {
color:#0000FF;
}
a:hover {
color:#FF0000;
}
</style>
</head> in a:hover to display the background color on rollover

Then our final code will look like this,

<head>
<style type=”text/css”>
a:link {
color:#0000FF;
}
a:visited {
color:#336600;
}
a:hover {
color:#FF0000;
background-color:#0066FF;
}
</style>
</head>

If you wish to add a underline on the link on rollover, then add the below code in a:hover too

text-decoration:underline;

then the last code for rollover link will look a bit like this,

<head>
<style type=”text/css”>
a:link {
color:#0000FF;
}
a:visited {
color:#336600;
}
a:hover {
color:#FF0000;
background-color:#0066FF;
text-decoration:underline;
}
</style>
</head>

If you wish, you can give other effects on the links like, bold text on rollover effect, change in font size on rollover effect, change in font style on rollover effect, by adding these below code lines in a:hover.

font-weight:bold;
font:Arial, Arial, sans-serif;
font-size:16px;

The above mentioned example is just a sample of what can be done using CSS. Hope it helps you in building websites designs.

Tips To Write and Earn A $1000 Per Month Blog

July 18, 2008

First of all, sorry guys for not updating my blog for some while now as I was on a bit tight schedule.

Coming back to my post, recently, my SEO colleague and my friends wanted to know if it is possible to gain more than $1000 from a blog per month. I have been making some research on this topic and have tried to find the hidden features to achieve this. The technique used is simple with no exceptional skills required but its not that easy too.

So below is the solution to earn $1000 dollars :

1) Don’t neglect on making articles. If you really want to earn money by blogging, spend a sufficient amount of your time into your prepared blogs everyday. I would suggest at least 2 posts per day so that your blog is active all the time. If for some reason, you were unable to write a post, mention an apologetic sentence stating it to all your readers, so that you gain a certain level of respect from them.

2) Prepare BIG articles containing ORIGINAL content. Well after all a infectious content is the main reason which will attract readers to your blog. So maintain a good balance in terms of your big articles.

3) Don’t be too greedy. Just keep in mind, Quality is always better than Quantity. Keep active only one to two blogs instead of 10 tiny blogs. Do not fill your blog with unnecessary and irrelevant adverts. Keep the blog decent having a good look and feel and colors to attract and importantly hold on to readers.

4) Offer subscriptions to the readers visiting your blog. After it grows to 200 or more, add feedcount widget to your blog. Many readers subscribe by watching the feedcount on your blog. This is often stated as a balanced assessment sheet of blogs.

5) Bookmark your blog regularly in popular bookmarking website to increase your friends list based that your posts or articles are more visible.

6) Always reply to the comments from your blog site so that you create a good rapo with readers for them to visit your blog site again.

7) Always visit forums (that are popular) regularly. Also, if possible make lenses in Squidoo and hubs in hubpages because it helps you to promote your blog which in return helps you in earning money at the same time.

8) Finally, (from my past experience) I would suggest to write reader-centric. Read various blogs sites of similar topics as yours and check the articles or posts which are the most popular ones. Then translate them into your own simple user-friendly words with good vocabulary and narration.

That’s it then, the above tips are to my best of my knowledge and experience, but the results  may vary as per your implementation and dedication of work you have put in.

All the best in earning by marketing blogs and share with me about your experience in using the above tips. Also feel free to write to me regarding any issue on the above article.

What is the difference between Do-Follow and No-Follow blogs?

July 2, 2008

Many people have a doubt regarding this question about a do-follow and no-follow blog. Well in my past research i looked into this matter and got some interesting information about them.

Generally a new blogger will make as many blogs as possible as it genuinely helps in SERPs and attracts a reasonable amount of traffic towards the website or blog. But not each and every blogs are crawled by search engines.

There are 2 types of blogs. One having a “Do-Follow” in their tags and the other obviously as i have explained earlier a “No-Follow” in their pages.

The “Do-Follow” blogs generally are blogs that are crawled by search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. The below theory will help you to understand it better.

In the early days of blogging, many unwanted spammers were abusing the commenting pages of these blogs with their yuck links, and indirectly trying to promote their sites. To combat such an issue, Google started implementing the “No-Follow” tags in its index. Furthermore, this “No-Follow” tag was soon grasped by WordPress.com (one of the most user-friendly free blogging website). The people at wordpress starting implementing the same strategy while running their scripts in their commenting page. Basically what it means is that the URL’s posted in the commenting pages are not considered by search engines like Google.com and also these urls are not approved by google in their page rank theory. The thinking behind this was this step would resist spammers from posting yucky commenting URLs on blogs.

Was it worth It ?? Well, as per the spamming (which was over 7000) on one of my blog is concerned, it reflects that this did not seem to work as my blog commenting page are “No-Followed”.

What was worth it is this Askimet SPAM plug-in in wordpress.

But unfortunately, the “no follow” tag did have one unforeen result. Genuine commentors that had placed legitimate comments on various blogs were also not permited from doing this because they were not receiving any “link juice” from their commenting, either.

There is known to be a movement from various blogging websites and also search engines to allow the “Do-Follow” tags only and restraining the “No-Follow” tags to encourage people to post comments on the blogs. In wordpress, there is a option to turn off the “No-Follow” tag by a given plugin.

By advertising and promoting your blog as a “Do-Follow” tagged blog, you will surely grab the attention of others posters to leave their comments on your blog.

So according to me, its well advised to promote your blog site on “Do-Follow” tagged blogs as it generally extracts more traffic and encourages others to leave comments on them.

SEO Techniques/Tips that helped me and will help a newbie in future – Nitesh Pednekar

July 1, 2008

Through out my SEO research in my organisation, I was lucky to find new and upcoming solutions for ranking higher in search engines.

Around 2 years ago, I was the one in my organization, who found about a very creative and innovative idea of preparing blogs for boosting our website’s traffic. But (as i am a well respected professional in terms of my work done) they allowed me to got ahead with this attempt of making as many blogs as possible. The one blog i liked in terms of ranking SERP’s as well as design is WordPress. I started my blog http://bharatbook.wordpress.com and soon started getting more website traffic through it.
